Capsules and the Dark

I had run away from my home. Walking with my backpack at midnight under the stars, I was in the street. I had nowhere to go and wasn’t thinking of anything. I was just walking along trying to understand where the way I was walking was leading to.

After a while, I reached a park in the middle of the neighborhood. No one was there. I sat on a bank and pulled out the crackers I had taken from my home. There was a mild breeze blowing my hair while I was eating my snack. A dog came from the darkness. He was big, black but gorgeous. I might have been scared if he wouldn’t have come that calmly, everyone could easily be frightened by his appearance. He laid down beside me. The moment he put his head on the bank, I chose a name for him, it was Max.

We were walking together when I finished eating my crackers about half an hour later. There were still no street lights but my eyes had already gotten used to the dark so I was able to see my way.  We walked for another half an hour and a building caught my eye from a far distance. We were almost at the end o the neighborhood so I knew that it was in a remote area of the street, I knew that there was only a church and a few houses there. The building was so bright that I asked myself how a church or a few houses could spread all that light. We walked more and got closer to the building. It turned out that the huge, impressive building I saw while walking through the pitch blackness of the damp, cold night was a school. Its lights illuminated every nook and cranny, ridiculing the somber, silent cloak of the night like a persistent mustard stain on funeral attire. The street was still dark, but it felt brighter in my inner world. I couldn’t help myself but approach the building. Just as I was about to enter the school, Max started barking and ran inside. I was running behind him to catch up, but he was so fast. He ran into a class, the door was open and talking noises were coming from there. I stepped into the class.

I remember I had cramps in my stomach, I was anxious from what I saw.  There were big capsules filled with a blue liquid, I assume there were 7 of them. But the problem was not the capsules, the problem was the things inside them. They were humans, their eyes were closed and they were attached to some cables inside the blue thing. I realized that they were not fully humans, their limbs were different, and it was as if some other thing’s DNA had been injected into them.

I was frozen and forgot even why I was there. Max was also shocked too. I quickly observed what was going on there. There were three scientists using high-tech devices attached to the capsules. There were also lots of needles on the long tables, reports and graphs, and statistics on the big whiteboard behind the capsules. Besides, there were alien photos reflected on a big screen, and next to it, the half-humans ratio of turning into an alien.

They looked at me, and I looked at them. No one did anything until I started running all the way through the exit with Max. But we were way too slower than them and in every classroom we passed, other scientists were coming out to catch us. We were so close to the exit but one of them pointed a weird gun at me. I stopped running and when I stopped, Max was also stopped too. I knew I couldn’t escape, so I yelled at Max to run and save himself. He succeeded. I was happy for him. The scientist got closer to me, I started praying and hoping Max will come back with help as they knocked me out.
