Every single person is born into a different family and social environment. Each society has its own cultural values and backgrounds. On the other hand, in terms of development, there are very sharp differences between societies and nations. All these factors are determinant aspects in a person’s life.
Among the factors that have influence on a person’s life, family has the primary role. Each family has a different level of education, vision and perspective of life. This is directly reflected to the child after his birth. It is inevitable that the child will most probably have a similar way of thinking and understanding the life during his childhood or youth. Besides, families have different economic power. Therefore, there can be differences between the conditions and opportunities which are provided to the child.
After the first impact of the family, the second impact on a person’s life comes from society. Societies show differences in terms of level of education and cultural values. These values include traditions, religion nationalism etc. and these are given to the child by the society surrounding him. This will certainly have an effect on a person’s beliefs and way of thinking. The geography where the society is located has also a big impact on a person’s life. A person can be born in a village or metropolitan. Conditions and opportunities are surely very different in rural and urban areas.
On a larger scale, nations and states are also determinants in our lives. Some countries are very underdeveloped and some countries are highly civilized and democratic. Human rights and freedom are not the same all over the world. Therefore, the conditions are not the same either. Although human is affected by these external factors, he has also his own characteristics, capabilities, and talents. These external factors may work for or against us. They can make life easier or they can put barriers in front of us. It is very hard to break these barriers but it is not impossible.
In conclusion, individual effort is essential while reaching our goals. However, we can not ignore the impact and significance of society, family, and systemic structures. Changing our point of view, determining our goals, and showing sufficient or extraordinary effort and ambition may help us overcome the obstacles that are caused by external influences.
