It all started last summer when me and my 5 friends decided to go camping. When the school was over, we were all extremely tired and the best way to get over all the burden of the whole lessons and the anxiety of the exams was to go on holiday with friends. After long discussions we decided to go to Sapanca where there is a forest and a lake.
We prepared our backpacks and our tents. We decided to leave our cell phones at home as we were sure that there would be no signals in the forest around that area. After all, we would all be together and there would be no problem in communication. We set off very early in the morning to avoid the heavy city traffic. The weather was wonderful and we listened to some music all throughout the road. It took us three hours to reach Sapanca. As soon as we reached to the region, we had spotted on the map the previous day, the boys started to set up the tents. They told us to pick up some wood-fire as a preparation.
Duru, Ceylin and I began to walk, looking around for some dry twigs and dry bushes. It was hard to find so we decided to go further into the forest. We were talking and laughing at the same time so we couldn’t notice that we had walked far away from our campsite. Suddenly it started to rain so heavily that we had to stop and look for some shelter. Otherwise, we would be soaking wet. As Duru and I were walking fast, we heard a scream behind us. When we turned around, to our horror, Ceylin was stuck in mud. She could not move and she was crying for help like crazy because there were hundreds of spiders getting closer to her and we knew that Ceylin had arachnophobia; fear of spiders!
We had to rescue her as soon as possible before she lost her mind. First, we called the boys. We shouted for help for ten minutes which seemed like ages. They didn’t hear us. Actually, nobody heard us. Then, we tried to pull Ceylin out of the mud but each time she moved; she was getting deeper in the mud. Duru found a thick and long leaf. Ceylin tried to catch one end of the leaf but she was unable to catch it or each time she held it, she couldn’t hold onto it. Time was passing and it was getting dark. We started to panic and Duru and I looked at each other. Our eyes were filled with tears. I said that we should try one more time. We took a deep breath and threw the huge leaf with all our strength. Finally, Ceylin managed to catch it and we were able to pull her out of the mud. We held on to each other and jumped up and down with joy.
Somebody called our name in the darkness of the forest. We turned around and saw Kaan and Deniz standing right in front of us holding torches. They looked so terrified. They had been looking for us all night. It was five thirty in the morning. They asked us where we had been all night and we started telling our story, covered in mud.
