Blue Beetle

Interstellar

When someone asks me to think of a marvelous movie, my mind directly goes to “Interstellar”. Even though I don’t quite enjoy watching science fiction films, Interstellar is a movie like no other. Watching this movie literally changed my thoughts about science fiction. Let me tell you about it.

The movie projects humanities possible future. In the beginning crop species go extinct. Former pilot Joseph Cooper is now a farmer growing corn, which isn’t going as if it was planned. Meanwhile, his daughter Murph suspects that there are ghosts in the house. Joseph doesn’t believe in ghosts but he also thinks that there is something odd about the house when dust bunnies form a set of coordinates in binary form. He goes to that location and surprisingly he finds himself in front of NASA. While he is at NASA, he is asked to attend a mission to find the best planet out of three orbiting a black hole. The aim of the mission is to find another planet to transfer humanity which seems a bit impossible so as a backup plan, the crew has to raise 5000 embryos which is stored aboard the ship. The only problem is that no one knows the exact time of the mission and time works different in space. So even though he won’t age that much his whole life is in jeopardy. He considers all the consequences and excepts the mission even though her daughter Murph does not want to leave him. Well, you have to watch the movie if you want to know what happens next.

Even though it was filmed in early 2014, the visual effects and the technology used is over the top. It is so realistic that you could forget that it is just a movie. It has a great storyline, which the actors executed very well. So, everything about this movie is literally perfect. It is detailed and it hooks you from the moment you start watching. I think everyone has to see this movie once in their life because it is nothing like the other science fiction movies. I recommend this movie to everyone who hasn’t seen this cinematic masterpiece.

The Story of a Girl from Ancient Greece

It’s been a while since I read a book, I usually like books but because of the school and preparation for my exams, there hasn’t been enough time for me to dig my head into one of many fantasy worlds created by words. Even though quite a time has passed I still remember a certain book I read.

It was again another novel but this time it was about ancient Greece and its mythology. I usually don’t give much attention to which god is who in Greek mythology however, the story itself attracted my attention. I was in a bookstore near my house looking for new books to read before school. I walked around the shelves filled with many books for all ages. Then I saw the book named “The Daughter of Sparta” I read the back of the book to get a certain idea about the plot and it was pretty interesting. I took a picture of it so I wouldn’t forget it when buying all the books I’d chosen online.

The plot of the book was set in ancient Sparta and Olympus (known to be the realm of Greek gods). The main character had the same name as mine so I felt closer to her more than the other characters. She wasn’t spartan so other natives were neglecting her. To gain glory and worth she attended a competition which was set to determine if the year would be productive or not. While in the competition Daphne (the main character) met with Artemis who turned her brother into a deer and told Daphne to save Olympus from the hands of an evil goddess with her brother Apollon, the god of the sun. The book told the adventures of Daphne and Apollon with a slight drama. There were lots of action scenes filled with gore which made the book stick to my hands.

The thing about the book I loved the most was the character development of both Daphne and Apollon. At first, they hated each other, and then over time they got closer. Daphne changed her mind about the gods being merciless and Apollon learned that not all mortals were weak. I searched if the book had a second chapter because the ending was left with a cliffhanger. Turns out it was a trilogy however the other two books of it haven’t come to Turkey. I’ll be looking forward to buying those ones as well and I highly recommend the book if you like Greek mythology filled with action, drama and violence.

An Unforgettable Trip

Last month, on a school trip, we went to Sultanahmet, one of the historical regions of Istanbul. The trip was accompanied by 9th grade students and a few teachers. We met in front of the school early in the morning and boarded the buses as groups of students.

When we arrived in Sultanahmet, we immediately started visiting historical buildings. First, we visited the Hagia Sophia Museum and learned the historical and architectural details there with the help of a guide. Then we visited the Sultanahmet mosque and admired the magnificent decorations and details inside.

During the lunch break, we ate in small street restaurants in groups and chatted with each other. Afterwards, we visited Topkapi Palace and learned about the history of the Ottoman Empire. While visiting the museums inside the palace, we had the opportunity to see important works from the Ottoman closely.

This trip was not only about history and culture, but also highlighted the importance of traveling in groups and sharing experiences together. The experience of traveling and exploring together allowed me to form stronger bonds with my classmates and make new friendships.

Especially the explanations of the guides and the information added by our teachers enabled us to learn not only the information we learned from textbooks, but also historical and cultural details in real life. This made our learning experience richer and more impressive.

However, during the trip, we observed that some students had problems such as getting lost in the group or being distracted. This resulted in some students not being able to fully participate during the trip and benefit from the experience to the fullest.

To avoid such situations, more effective group management and student organization can be planned for future trips. For example, student groups can be divided into smaller subgroups and a leader can be assigned for each group. Additionally, students can be provided with motivation and guidance to focus their attention at the beginning and throughout the trip. In this way, it can be ensured that all students benefit from the experience equally and losses are minimized.

At the end of the trip, we left behind a day full of experiences shared and knowledge gained among the students. We can see more clearly the contribution of such events to the educational process and hope that similar events will be organized more frequently. This trip was an unforgettable day spent together by our class and became a source of motivation for future events.

Barbie: Princess Charm School

The main character Blair Willows is a kind and loving princess student. She is a waitress who helps support her mom and her little sister. One day she returns home from the cafe where she is working, then she unexpectedly wins the lottery to attend the exclusive and royal Princess Charm School, a privileged boarding school where she can train to become a princess or royal lady.  While Blair is excited to attend to provide a better life for her family, apart from her affectionate roommates, she quickly becomes the target of the school’s wannabe Delancy and her snobby and annoying mother Professor Dame Devin. Although the Devins try to sabotage Blair’s time at Charm School, the lovely Miss Privet teaches her to be successful at princess school for graduation day.

Blair was first intimidated by the Princess School’s high expectations and fierce competition, but with the determination and motivation of her friends, she learned to believe in herself and to become confident. This is an important message for the kids who are watching the movie. The colorful and dreamy animation captures intention from its precise setting and realistic characteristics. Each character has a unique personality and a mysterious background. And I enjoyed watching this amazing, heartwarming, and confidence-boosting movie.

Overall, “Barbie Princess Charm School” is an enjoyable movie for the mentally-building girls. It is a movie that grants a vital message about self-confidence and enjoyment.
