Blackberry Winter by Sarah Jio

If you like reading books, especially the ones that are mysterious and romantic, you should grab your to-read list and write “Blackberry Winter” by Sarah Jio on the top of your list. Blackberry Winter is one of her bestselling books and with the background story it has, I am sure it will be one of your favourite books too.

Sarah Jio has a different writing style. Her books usually consist of two different main characters and we can read the story from both of their points of views. Sometimes these characters are from different decades too, like the Blackberry Winters main characters: Vera and Claire. Even though they weren’t living at the same time, Sarah Jio did a really good job with connecting their life stories.

So about the plot of the book, Vera Ray is a strong woman who has very hard living conditions and is determined to take care of his little son Daniel on her own. She is working as a cleaning maid and has to leave Daniel alone in the house while she is at work. On one 1933 May day, a snowstorm takes place. Since it was spring everyone finds it weird. Vera doesn’t want to leave Daniel alone in the house on this cold day but since she doesn’t have any choice she leaves him alone. Sadly, when she comes back home, she cannot find Daniel in his bed.

80 years later, in may, a snowstorm happens again in the same city. Claire Aldridge, who is a journalist, finds an unsolved case of a little boy that was missing by the time this snowstorm was happening. She soon starts searching about this case and finds some secrets about her connection to Vera and Daniel.

Blackberry Winter is a plot twisted book which is very gripping. If you love these kinds of books, don’t forget to check Blackberry Winter out and also listen to the song called Blackberry Winter which gave the inspiration for the book to Sarah Jio!
