Hi, I’m George Grumbs. Before telling you about my day, I’ll tell you who I am. I was born in 1995 in Rhode Island, America. My family was wealthy, but they were not happy. I had two siblings; we lost both of them last year in separate traffic accidents. My brother died while on his way to a concert, and my sister was on vacation. They were both unmarried and only 23 years old. The reason my family isn’t happy isn’t just because of my siblings’ deaths. I was 17 years old when they died, and I couldn’t get into any university except for an art school. My family wanted me to attend a prestigious university and earn a lot of money easily. They were very upset with me and didn’t allow me to do what I wanted. After a few weeks, one morning they found me dressed and carrying a small suitcase. They said goodbye, but I had some plans that I thought would make them happy, at least I hoped so. I went to the Art University that I got into, but I found out my artistic ability wasn’t very good, actually, it was quite bad. I wasn’t worried about it because at least I could make some money for myself. I graduated from Orlando University of Art in 2015, with one of the lowest grades in the university. I bought a two-room house on the top floor of an apartment building. I chose to create imaginary art paintings because it’s relatively easy. Fans of imaginary art appreciate these seemingly meaningless works and say “wow” to every painting. Therefore, I think it’s for those who aren’t discerning, but you know, I have to do it to make a living.
At the beginning of my story, I mentioned that I would tell you about my daily routines. This part is about that.
I wake up at 8:30 AM, change my clothes, and wash my hands. I have breakfast with cereal and cheesy puffs, sometimes accompanied by a simple sandwich, at 9:00 AM. I grab a fruit from my fruit plate and start drawing. I use acrylic paint because it’s affordable. Since I don’t earn much, I don’t buy a lot of painting materials. I use only a few colors and shapes with good harmony. After 4 or 5 hours of painting, I put on my shoes for a short walk. I usually go to Miss Rebecca Park, but once a month, I go shopping. During the walk, if it’s sunny, I buy an ice cream; if not, I drink a cup of strong coffee at Crown Coffee. I return home after an hour, paint for a few more hours, and then watch TV on my small antique TV. After that, I read some books and send emails to the painting gallery about my new paintings. They pay $50 or $60 for a painting, which is enough for me. At 10:30 PM, I go to bed with shapes and colors swirling inside my head. Lastly, I want to emphasize that you don’t need a very prestigious job to be happy. Like me, you can find happiness in simplicity too!
