Alone In the Herd

In a herd, there are 1 to 2 dozens of sheep. These sheep move together and follow each other at all cost. When a sheep jumps off a cliff, all of the sheep in the herd follow. We, humans, aren’t very different especially since the technology started increasing rapidly. We buy what influencers buy, use what they use and do what they do. The difference between the mindset of sheep and humans is that even when inside a crowd, we humans feel lonely.

The phrase “Crowded Loneliness” describes the feeling of being excluded in a group of people. This is a pretty common feeling among us humans. The reason behind this feeling is because the media is normalizing always being with a friend and the people that spend time alone are considered loners, asocial and they are discriminated from the community. Just being with your friends doesn’t mean you are not alone. You can be walking with your friends but that doesn’t show that you are a part of their conversation.

Feeling excluded can affect us humans in many different ways. Some of us might just stop being friends with the person and the rest of us can just remain silent about it. No matter which of these you would do, being discriminated is never a good feeling. If someone is excluding you on purpose, you should just walk away since if the situation continues, it might go as far as bullying. An excluded person will see a change both academically and socially. The person will soon face a decrease in their mood and grades. They won’t want to go out with friends, they won’t want to get out of bed and they will isolate themselves from their friends. If this situation continues, the person will face mental issues such as depression.

To summarize, being alone in a herd of people won’t affect anyone in a good way and it is nice to help people feel included. Otherwise, the person might feel unworthy and start excluding themselves on their own.
