A War That Will Never Make Sense

As humanity advances, technological development naturally follows. In the world we have built brick by brick, what seemed impossible decades ago is now part of our daily lives. Amazing, isn’t it? How fast and convenient this progress has become. Humanity is certainly moving forward, but assuming that these rapid changes are all positive would be a mistake. After all, the number of people complaining about technology’s role in their lives is incredibly high today. I’m afraid this number, already in the millions, will only continue to grow, ultimately shattering the newfound peace we have worked so hard to achieve.

First of all, the biggest difference between today and a century ago is that people didn’t rely on technology to extend their lives back then. Sadly, it is true that a significant percentage of people wouldn’t be able to survive daily life without technology in today’s world. Some people see this as a good thing, as it shows how far we’ve come as individuals. However, I find this concerning. How can someone look at their petty, dependent existence and perceive it as positive? This mindset is the problem with our society. We are so caught up in admiring ourselves as amazing beings that we can’t acknowledge what is wrong with us. This inability to accept our flaws, I believe, is a greater shame and is dragging us into a brutal war that threatens to shatter the peace we have worked so hard to attain.

I believe this mentality is the biggest obstacle to achieving lasting peace. At first glance, it may be hard to see. One might argue that diversity of thought is what makes us human. However, society tends to view humans as supernatural, extraordinary beings. Even if no one openly admits it, deep down, this belief exists. It causes us to overpower everything else, ultimately leading us to lose ourselves and our understanding of peace. How can peace be found if everyone thinks they are better than one another? How can peace be maintained if our minds are constantly at war with each other? A war with no winner. A war where nothing truly matters. A war where peace may be found after years of conflict but will never be permanent. So why waste years fighting a war that will never end?
