Last week me and my friends went camping. As much as I would like to, it is not possible to say that it was a good camp. That is not because the camp was bad, it is because I got lost at night. Actually, I was not supposed to get lost, but since it was night, I could not see around and that’s what happened. And somehow, I managed to survive. It was very scary.
It all started when my friend Jacob called me and invited me to their yearly camping party. I was free all week so I accepted his invitation. Jacob and his friends took me from my home and we went to the nearest camping site. When we set up the tents and lit our fire, it was around noon – evening. So that, Jacob called us all and handed everyone’s tasks. He assigned me the task of gathering firewood. It wasn’t a hard task but it was not very good too. That is because finding fallen pieces of wood was a difficult task due to our location and also sky was getting darker. But there was nothing I could do, so I took a flashlight and my pocket knife with me and set off. When I looked at my watch, I saw that it was 22.15, but I still hadn’t collected enough firewood. Nevertheless, I decided to go to the camp because my flashlight battery was low. I reached into my pocket for the compass but it was not there, I had dropped it while looking for firewood. I switched on the flashlight, which was my last resort, but its battery was dead as soon as I switched it on. Under the moonlight, shivering in the icy cold, I started to think about how I would return to camp. I couldn’t sleep because there were wild animals and some insects which can kill me and also, I couldn’t go more further because I would be lost completely. And then an idea suddenly came to me. I had firewood that I had collected and I could use them to lit a fire, at least this fire would be enough to burn for a night and protect me from predators. After lighting the fire, I lay down right next to the fire and went to sleep. When I woke up Jacob and his friends were waiting me. They have searched for me all the night before they found me.
I was so ashamed that day. I apologised to everyone and decided not to camp again. And even though it was sad that they agreed with my decision, at least I was alive. That was totally enough for me.
