Fascinating color transitions, harmony of contrasts, creativity meeting with brush strokes… My favorite painter, Monet, in the glamorous world of painting, reveals every feature I mentioned in an incredible way.
His favorite subject in his art was definitely the nature. He loved to explore the hidden treasures inside nature and distribute the beauty of nature via his paintings. The Water Lilies series, which contains nearly 250 oil paintings and is an unique example of the impressionism movement, is one of Monet’s most popular artwork series.
The painting of “The Water Lily Pond” which is in this artwork series is surely my favorite painting of Monet among all of his artwork. This painting takes nature’s sudden surprise for Monet as the subject: lilies. At first, the water lilies he planted just to pass the time later became the indispensable subject of his works. He describes how he was mesmerized by these plants with this sentence: “I saw, all of a sudden, that my pond had become enchanted… Since then, I have had no other model.”
So we can say that this painting is one of the Monet’s important works reflecting his love for nature. He was guided by an intense interest in the natural world, he created works that reflected the magical nuances he observed in places like vast seascapes, quiet lily ponds as in this painting. You can also see the traces of his painting style in this painting. His short brushstrokes, touches of pure paint, tiny dabs of light and technique inspired by Japanese art style are the ones that are obviously Monet’s key features. Him adding contours to harmonise the colours and trying to show the magical balance and harmony between nature and man-made structure ,which is a Japanese-styled bridge, are other appearances of his style in the painting.
It is also seen that he didn’t want to drown in details and just painted the impression that a relaxed, momentary vision of the scene gave him.
Of course, although this painting has undergone many changes until today, it has become one of Monet’s most popular works even after his death. Many people around the world buy replicas of this painting even now and we are sure that the love for Monet and his art will be with us for many more years.
