A SHORT MOVIE

I was crowded by a few teachers and lots of students. I knew I was going to black out soon. I saw everything so blurry, even so, I could see and feel the panic on their faces.

When I had built up the strength to open my eyes again, I saw what probably was the brightest light I would have ever seen in my entire life. I was crowded again, but this time by people who I had never seen before. Not only the people, the environment i was in was also very unfamiliar. People were talking, all at once. I couldn’t understand a word they were saying. I was in the hospital, that was for sure. I didn’t really remember what happened but I knew I was hurt. People who were most likely my family were just outside the room I was in. I could see the pity on their faces.

What I thought was an hour had passed and the doctors had left me alone to rest a while before they investigated any further. I didn’t know who I was, where I was or why I was there. After a couple of more minutes, a grown lady walked into my room with a bouquet of flowers, a bunch of books and clean clothing. She didn’t seem like a nurse, so I was more curious. She left all the stuff she had gathered right on the table across my hospital bed and slowly approached me. Even though she had a smile on her face, the faint expression of sadness and pity could be seen. She smiled brightly and started talking.

“I brought you a few things Andy, I don’t know if you remember me or not but I’m your mother. I got you comfy clothes, your favorite books and some lavenders.”

Of course I didn’t remember her. I just smiled and nodded as she turned to leave. The moment she left, I got up and walked to the table to take one of the books she had put up there. I dug into the pile of books and found one that had a lavender cover. It felt comforting to see that color. I wondered why. I took the book with me to bed. I opened it just to see that it wasn’t an ordinary book, it was a book full of handwritten pages but the weird thing was that the pages had numbers on them. I scanned the pages to see if any word sounded familiar but I ended up with nothing. I scrolled and scrolled but nothing had a ring to it. Just as I was about to put the book back where it was, I got to the 120th page which had an oddly familiar combination of numbers which appeared to be a phone number.

I couldn’t remember if I had seen it before or where I had seen it before but it was very familiar. Just then the nurses and a few doctors entered the room so I hid the book behind me. They told me it could take months for me to get my memory back but it could also magically come back in a few hours. I understood then that they weren’t the best doctors out there. My confusion about the phone number was eating me up inside so I asked one of the nurses if I could make a phone call. She looked surprised but didn’t question me much and just handed me one of the hospital phones. I thanked her and smiled at her as she left.

My fingers were shaking as I dialed the number. I took the phone to my ear and waited, I waited until someone picked up the phone. I heard a sound…

“CUT!”

The director approached me with a big smile.

“I’m proud of you Andrew, if you keep up the work, this short movie could be a huge hit, you’ll be famous son!”
