When we woke up on the morning of December 31st, everyone was in a festive mood. It was the most special and fun day of the year for all of us. The new year meant new hopes, new dreams, new beginnings. As a new year’s day leaves another year behind, it was more important than anything to welcome a new year and to be in unity and solidarity with the family.
As soon as I woke up in the morning, I ran to the window with the dream of snow and opened the curtain. I could not believe in my eyes. It was snowing heavily. Everywhere was white. It was the best present of the new year. I was very happy. We started the day with a delicious breakfast in our cozy house. Gift packages on one side, the Christmas tree we decorated on the other, that beautiful snow falling on the other…
Our breakfast was spent with lots of conversation. It would be nice to share the memories of the past years. For this reason, everyone would tell about the important events they had experienced during a year. After breakfast, the preparations began for the New Year celebration in the evening. We invited our friends to dinner. I was very excited. My father went grocery shopping. My mother started the dinner preparations. On the other hand my younger brother was running around happily in the red Santa Claus costume that my mother had bought. He was going to give presents to our guests at 12 midnight dressed as Santa Claus. I went out for shopping because I wanted to buy gifts for both my family and friends. I bought a plaid skirt for my mother, a woolen and patterned scarf for my father, and a toy car for my brother. I came home at half past four in the evening. After I came home, I helped my mother. We prepared the table with my mother and brother. It looked great.
Our guests arrived at 6 o’clock in the evening. We missed each other so much. First, we had a delicious dinner together. We chatted a lot. Then we all played board games together. We danced with music. It was a wonderful New Year’s Eve. We were having so much fun together. Time was running fast. It was only seconds before the new year. And, just then there was a loud noise from the roof of the house. There was a great silence in the house. My younger brother was not at home. We all rushed out. My brother, who wanted to enter the house like Santa Claus, fell from the roof. We had to spend the rest of a wonderful New Year’s Eve at the hospital. He was lucky that he just broke his right leg.
