Have you ever heard the Irish myth about a magical place you can visit if you pass the rainbow? It always sounded so amazing yet so impossible. Until the day I found out it was more than just a myth.
It was last summer. The weather was dry and warm. You could easily cook on the solid hard road. I was with my friends outside to chat and play games to remember the good old days. However, we lost interest too quickly. After a while, one of our friends came. He looked so excited and amazed. He kept talking about passing under the rainbow and reaching a magical place. I didn’t give much attention to it. Some of my friends just laughed. But he kept insisting on trying it. We didn’t have anything else to do, so we agreed on trying it. We checked the weather report and learned it’d rain next week.
The week passed fastly and we’d been prepared. We didn’t know where the rainbow would be so we filled our bags with snacks and bottles of water. We saw a rainbow on the hill near our neighborhood when the rain stopped. We walked on it and stopped in front of the rainbow. I stepped forward carelessly thinking that nothing was going to happen but I was wrong. As I stepped under the rainbow, I fell.
I had fallen into golden flowers which didn’t have any scent. I looked around, I was in a dark room with hard purple brick walls surrounding me. I got up and walked towards a flower that looked different from the others. It looked more alive and shiny. As I approached the flower turned its head to me and spoke. It said that its name was Flowey and this place was the friendliest in the whole universe. Then it showed me a few of its seeds and told me to touch them when it throws them at me. It said they would heal me. I was a fool to believe a talking flower. As the seeds touched me they cut my skin deeply. The flower laughed and said you would rather kill or be killed in this world. As he was about to throw another set of seeds he was thrown away by a fireball. I looked the way that the ball came from. It was a female goat standing and looking like a human with her blue dress. She said her name was Toriel and she would protect me from monsters down here. I was relieved and happy to meet a really friendly creature. She held my hand and told me about this place. She said there were a lot of puzzles that I needed to solve to proceed. She even taught me to be kind and spare the monsters that I might encounter. She even baked me a butterscotch cinnamon pie! She was so sweet and kind but I knew I had to go. She didn’t want me to leave and challenged me to a battle. I didn’t want to fight her so I kept saying and explaining why I must go. Finally, she accepted and let me go.
When I got out a cold wind made me shiver. I was in a new place filled with white shiny cold snow. I looked around. The place looked like a forest. Among the trees, I saw little leprechauns running around. I walked forward and saw a bridge with thick sticks on top. It looked like a barrier but the spaces between the sticks were too wide. As I was going to pass I heard a harsh breath behind me. Then came a deep relaxed voice. It said “Human. Don’t you know how to greet a new pal? Turn around and shake my hand” I turned around. The voice belonged to a chubby skeleton wearing a white shirt under a fluffy blue hoodie. He also had pink fluffy slippers under black shorts. He looked friendly so I shook his hand. And a loud fart noise came from my hand. I looked down as he laughed then I laughed too. He said his name was Sans and his brother was a human-capturing fanatic. He told me to hide as we saw a tall figure coming by angrily. I hid behind a lamp that was conveniently shaped. The figure came to Sans. He was complaining about how Sans was sleeping all day instead of preparing new puzzles. I couldn’t hold my laugh when he called Sans Lazybones. I fell onto the lamp. Sans laughed and said *Hey Papyrus here’s a human.” Papyrus looked at me and said, “No Sans that’s a lamp!” “What is laying on the lamp?” Sans said. And Papyrus shouted human. Then he gave a whole speech on why he needed to capture me. And how great he was. After a while, things got interesting.
Papyrus gave me puzzles and accidentally solved them for me. I laughed at him and Sans’ jokes. Then somehow we got into a date with Papyrus. Then he said he wanted to be just friends. And I said okay because I didn’t want to date him in the first place. Then he said there was a royal guardian who was so determined to capture me. He said he would talk with her but he was a bit late as I encountered her on my way.
Her name was Undyne and she was the most ambitious person I’d ever seen. She was also quite strong too. She kept telling me to fight her but I didn’t. Then she finally gave up end went away. She kept talking to someone named Alphys whom I happen to catch spying on me. But she was so sweet and had a crush on Undyne. So I helped her to tell Undyne her true feelings. She thanked me a thousand times and gave me a noodle. As we were about to watch anime Sans called me and said he was waiting for me at the local restaurant Grillby’s.
I walked back to the snowy area which was called Snowdin Town. I passed a library which was spelled libarby. It was quite funny and made me think of Sans. Then I went into Grillby’s. Sans was waiting for me there. I sat beside him. We ordered two burgers. But he put the whole ketchup onto my burger. He laughed and gave me his burger to me. He told me that to get out of there, I had to fight King Asgore and kill him. He then said he was watching me carefully and if I hurt any of these people I’d end up dead. He looked so creepy as his eyes disappeared, leaving the dark empty eye holes. He laughed when he noticed my face. He said he was just messing with me and made a joke to lighten up the atmosphere. I laughed nervously. It was the first time that I saw Sans that serious and angry. Then he got out. I wanted to follow him but he was gone. So I continued my journey.
After many puzzles and battles, I was finally in the castle hall. I walked through half of it and then encountered Sans. He looked calm and happy. He seemed proud and relieved. He wished me good luck and then disappeared. I walked into the King’s room. The room was filled with golden flowers which smelled like butterscotch. Asgore was watering the flowers. He turned to me. His smile disappeared when he noticed I was the final human he needed to get out of here. He looked sad, neither of us wanted to fight but we had no choice. As the battle started he destroyed my will to spare him. I tried to talk to him but he didn’t listen. At the very end when he finally changed his mind a familiar seed hit him and he turned to dust. It was Flowey! It took all the power of Asgore and turned into something horrible! He then captured all my friends. Tears went down my face as I saw their soulless eyes. I tried to reach out to them. I saved every one of them. However, there was one left that needed to be saved. Flowey.
After I saved all my friends, Flowey turned into a goat that looked like Toriel. He looked evil but he wasn’t. He was lost and confused. I dodged his attacks and slowly approached him. In the end, I hugged him. He turned into a small goat child. He said he finally remembered his true identity. He was Asriel, son of Asgore, and Toriel, the prince of this world. We cried together as he faded away, turning back into a flower.
After all that we all got out of this rainbow world. They were finally free, just like Asriel.
