A Day With Atatürk

It was 27th December 1919. I saw him. He came to Samsun by ferry.

We were very happy because the great commander was here. We were waiting as Samsun people. We have a lot of question about our country’s status. Suddenly someone said “Here his ferry.” he said in a loud voice. We were so excited that we forgot all the questions we were going to ask. After a while, the ferry approached the port Everyone applauded Atatürk. When he land from ferry he was very stressful for country but not showed. He said “Hello Samsun people, do you have any question about something?”. Someone said” How are you, sir, are you in good health?”. He said” Good but the main thing not it’s. The main thing is countrys situation.”. Someone sad” Do you need something?”. He said “I am tursty and hungry do you have something?”. I said” I have bread and one cup of water, you can take.”. He likes tired. He needed some rest. I told him and I hosted him at my house for one night.

I prepared tarhana soup. After we both ate, I asked, “How are we going to save your country?”. He said “In our own strength”. I said “What should we do?”. He said “Your mother is wearing clothes and you are helping soldiers.”.We chatted some more and went to bed. The next morning, I was on my own horse, Atatürk got on his horse and we set off. After we had gone for a while, I said that we needed to take a breather to rest. He was tired too but still determined to come. After a while he agreed to rest. Just as we were getting on our horse, we saw a boy from the opposite village. He was cry. We said “Are you okay kid”. The boy said, “My father went to the war.”. Atatürk said, “Your father went to protect the country.” and wiped her tears.

After a while, we parted ways with Atatürk. So I drove the boy to his village, and then set off for my own village. I saw Atatürk for the first time. That’s why it was the best day I’ve ever had.
