A Calm Birthday Evening

I was enjoying my own individuality as the clock was hitting 8 pm. I was hoping that this calm and peaceful evening would not end and I was determined to make a peaceful start to my new age. However, I hadn’t taken into account that life hides unexpected things. I grabbed some tea, sat on my newly bought beanbag seat, turned on classical music in the  background and continued to the book I started two weeks ago but was not able to finish due to the busy work life of mine.

I could only read 10 pages when my phone began to ring. The call was from the office.  They might be calling to tell that we got a new case and the team needed to assemble. However, I didn’t want to spend the evening before my birthday chasing behind criminals. I didn’t answer the call and kept going on my book. But my perseverance ran out since phone kept ringing.  I picked it up and answered to my colleague Agent P.

“What do you want Perry?” “Agent El, get prepared and come to office as quick as you can, understood?” I shouted: “Come on, the case is closed we consigned the whole gang to police. What is so urgent that I can’t even enter my new age peacefully?!” I heard a sigh from the other side of the phone and call ended. I got up and took my uniform from the clotheshorse. I didn’t even mind it was damp. I fronted to the door and got out. Whole team was there waiting me. I rolled my eyes and got inside the car.

I asked where were we going as five cars rushed onto the road. My question remained unanswered so I repeated. Agent F whispered to my ear in slow words : to catch Daves McAllister. I opened my eyes wide and shouted “How did he escape?” Everyone laughed slightly. I told myself that it was alright for me to not know this since I was new. I had always worked from the office until I found out three months ago that I would be working in the field. Although I was knowing everyone on the team it felt strange at first, but it got actually fun to play active role in catching criminals.

As I was immersed in my thoughts the car stopped and we got out. I felt the cold air inside my bones.  Then I turned around and saw we came to the office but something seemed to be strange.  It was dark inside. We entered the building. The moment I stepped in the birthday song was ringing in my ears. Confettis popped and my birthday cake was right in front of me. Then the chaos started. Everyone was trying to congratulate me. Agent P and others were apologizing at the same time for making me worried. I laughed and leaned forwards to blow candles. Whatever happened happened at that very moment, when I was blowing out the candles. The tech devices in office went crazy and red alarms started to ring with an irritating sound. The news of the jailbreak of Daves McAllister hit us like a slap on the face.

After a few minutes of trying to realize what happened we were getting the infos from our information system agents. Honestly, I have never imagined my evening like this, but who knows a new adventure might be waiting for you while you are making plans.
