Is Reading or Writing More Suitable for Self-Expression?

Self-expression is a crucial part of human communication. It allows humans to share their ideas, feelings, and thoughts with other humans. Although reading and writing are both necessary in self-expression, the better method is writing. Writing allows people to organize their thoughts, express feelings, and develop creativity.

First of all, writing allows people to convey their thoughts effectively. When a person writes, they have time to think carefully about what to write. They can edit and improve their words before expressing them. In contrast, when people simply read, they are mostly understanding other people’s ideas rather than expressing their own thoughts in words. Writing allows a person to create their own voice and opinion, which is important for self-expression.

Another reason why writing is more helpful is because it enables people to communicate their feelings. Most believe that it is simpler for them to write down their feelings, rather than talk about them. For example, if a person is stressed or depressed, then journaling will enable them to vent. It will enable them to clear their heads. It can even help them better understand their thoughts. Conversely, reading enables individuals to empathize with the feelings of others but does not enable them to speak their own feelings straightaway.

Moreover, writing improves creativity. When people write stories, poems, or even personal ideas, they use imagination and their personal experiences to come up with something new. The process allows them to experiment with different ideas and modes of expression. Reading, while helpful in learning and acquiring inspiration, does not require the same level of creativity. It simply involves coming to know and analyzing other people’s ideas.

But then again, reading and writing do complement each other. Reading can even make one a better writer because it introduces them to different styles and ideas. One who reads a lot can be a good writer just because they learn to construct sentences and express ideas more effectively. But ultimately, writing is the stronger means of expression because it allows individuals to express themselves actively using words.

In sumary, although reading enables individuals to expess theirselves in various perspectives, writing is better suited. It provides individuals with the autonomy to structure their ideas, convey feelings, and foster creativity. Hence, if one wishes to communicate effectively, he or she should write.
