I had always been connected to the memories I gained in my life and always took a moment to look back and cherish them. Though I had never imagined them as vivid as I do now. Those were the thoughts crossing my mind while I was standing in the middle of a street that seemed to be a mixture of all the familiar fragments of my past.
I started to take a few steps through the street which I had no clue of how I ended up in. There were no signs of tall, ugly buildings blocking the beautiful view, only those that felt intimate, just like in my childhood. The familiar scent coming from the bakery led me on, uncovering more details of my past. Every corner seemed to remind me of something which filled me with a mixture of joy and melancholy.
As I walked through the narrow, bumpy streets twisted through the town, the post lamp started flickering, signalling that the moon was rising. It reminded me of the late-night walks I had with my friends filled with deep thoughts and dreams of the future. I walked through our usual route, passing through the park that once felt like the whole world to us when we were young. The swings were still as creaky yet managed to pull me in for ‘one more swing’.
I sat down on the metal piece letting myself lift off the ground. I found myself wanting to swing higher each time as the familiar sensation took over me, making me feel like a child again. I slowly came to a halt as nostalgia took over me in a sorrowful way. I realised that I would never be able to return to this chapter of my life, wishing I had appreciated more and truly enjoyed every single moment before they all slipped away.
