A novel called “The Dead Poets Society” talks about the individual’s freedom of self-expression and the importance of creative thinking. Also, this novel tells us why education and culture are necessary. Today, I will talk about how a dialogue in this novel made me feel. Reading books is one of the most important things that improve our knowledge as humans. A person who does not read books regularly is considered deficient in critical thinking and socially and culturally backward. Therefore, just as there can be no life without water, there can be no world without books. Books can be considered as one of our sources of life.
Our knowledge begins to take shape from an early age, thanks to books. Every person has their own experiences and knowledge, but it can be said that these characteristics are more developed in people who read books than in those who do not read books. Our knowledge is revealed by what we say, that is, by the way we express ourselves. That’s why an ignorant person who doesn’t read books cannot be compared with a person who strives to improve himself and reads books regularly. I associate this situation with the following words in the book: – “ — Do you read books, Mr. Andersen? – I do not read. I don’t feel its absence either. “But we feel it.” There is another part of these verses that I want to focus on. In these verses, let alone the harm to oneself, a generalization is made and it is mentioned that a person who does not read books is immediately noticed by people and will be in a bad position around him, and that the person is in a very inferior position compared to the person who reads books. People who do not read books are more likely to harm their environment than people who read books. In other words, no matter how we look at it and evaluate it from any angle, we see the negative aspects of not reading books around us. In short, these verses remind me that I should read books for myself and those around me because, as I said at the beginning, we cannot live without books just as we cannot live without water.
