Safe

Real, it was real. My hands could feel it, the fresh, windy air. The grass was hugging me behind my back, covering me, taking me to its safe place. The flowers’ colourfulness was brightening my eyes. Blue, pink, yellow, red… oh, the beauty of colours. I hadn’t been able to see them right for a long time. Everyplace, everything, everybody, was just a dark at some point to my useless eyes. There was something weird about this place… I hadn’t even brought my glasses but still, my eyes could see everything so perfectly. I guess my experiment went well.

I hadn’t lived that much of a surreal feeling in a long time. I had turned my head to the ground since I came, but I immediately understood where I was. I forced my body to stood up, while my heart was bumping crazily. Then I saw it. The brown wooden house, the house where I grew up, the house that had kept my memories, the house that I had felt safe, and loved. My eyes saw the reflection of me baking food, doing the chores, running with the dog I always loved… the flashbacks came in in a minute, it was a glimpse of the good old feelings I would never forget in my lifetime. I never showed my true feelings to anyone, I never admitted it but when I had looked into this house all I saw was the inner child in me that wanted to be happy again.

I sighed deeply as I started walking towards to the house. I didn’t need to walk, there was already a head of a kid that was looking to me from the door. “Where have you been?” he asked me with a loud voice. I got scared a bit. My old ears that lost the habit of hearing a long time ago, forgot how loudly I had spoken in those days. I walked inside, only to see my cousin that I lost contact a long time ago. It had hurt me deeply; I had been sad for days that we grew apart from each other. Despite never talking to each other for years, I still saw him as my best friend.

“Come on, be faster! Or else grandma’s cookies will be cold.” He said, with a huge grin on his face. I looked at him, knowing these happy times would be all over just a year later. But I didn’t care at that moment. The inner kid inside of me now was jumping, waiting for me to open the dungeon she was in and let her go.

So, I did.

“I’m coming!” I yelled, running next to him. Nothing was wrong, we were just children who got lost to the delicious smell of the cookies. Like it should’ve been…
