The stairs leads down to the basement of the old State Hospital

The Basement

My family was always so big. Both my parents had several siblings, they all had more than a few children. Every family event was huge, and we were always celebrating something. We didn’t go a month without having a family event. From birthdays to holidays to barbeque parties. We met up at least once a month.

I was always close with my cousins as I was an only child and we were never out of touch. We also sometimes had sleepovers. We were all so happy.

We were again celebrating a holiday all together at my uncle’s house. We were all there together until there was a knock on the door and my uncle went to open the door. When he came back said something to my grandparents and in the blink of an eye my parents were there as well and they looked overwhelmed. My aunt came over and said we should go upstairs as they had something to do. As we were going upstairs we saw a girl in the kitchen awkwardly standing. When she saw she faced the other way, and before we could find out who she was we were dragged upstairs.

We sat there for the rest of the night as the others were downstairs. We didn’t mind being there we decided to play some board games. Soon it was nighttime and there was no noise from downstairs that we started getting suspicious.

We decided to go downstairs and look for our parents but as soon as we opened the door we were met with pitch darkness. No one was in the house, we were quite surprised to see that we were left alone without being notified.

We went downstairs to see the normally locked basement door fully open with some light coming from downstairs. We got curious as we had never been down there.

As we started going down the stairs we got nervous as we didn’t know what to expect. Once we were down there it looked like a normal basement except there was a huge trunk with the words “Do Not Open” on it. On it was a paper with my surname written on it. Our family secrets were hidden in the trunk in the basement of our house. When I opened the trunk, I learned things that completely changed my outlook on life. There was a document with a picture of the girl from the kitchen. And she had my surname as I read through the paper I noticed that her parents were my parents I was shocked I had an older sister. Then we heard a noise behind us as ı turned back ı saw my parents with the girl. I ran up to them and I hugged my older sister.
