Genetic engineering started in 1973. It was a turning point for humanity, because from that point, humans started changing genetic properties of living beings for their own benefit. This included farm animals, plants and many others. With this kind of power the amount of nutrients in plants could be increased how ever we pleased, animals with better genes could be created a lot more easier. Illnesses could be cured a lot easier and humanity started playing the role of god. Even though these are big improvements, many see genetic engineering as a controversial subject.
Genetic engineering, as I said before, is playing the role of god. Since there are people who look at this subject in a religious way are negative about genetic engineering. Some also argue that it is cruel to change the genetics of not plants but animals because some animals for example dogs become a victim of genetic engineering just for them to look cute or dangerous. This may result in some cases the dog having certain problems in continuing it’s daily life. For example some dogs might have problem with breathing, walking, running, eating due to their bodies being recreated not in the way that they can survive, but in the way they fit for us humans’ likes. Even though genetic engineering benefits human in most cases it also is torture for the ones who are the victims of it. But changing the pillars this industry stands on will cause harm to the companies so we will probably not see any changes soon.
Genetic engineering is a controversial subject. For humans, it gives us an advantage that old humans could never think of. It can be cure to diseases, might help us create super humans etc. A lot of stuff we eat or drink is a product of genetic engineering. The industry grew soo much that even rice is genetically changed. It’s a part of our life and we’ll probably never get rid of it a %100. But governments can bring restrictions to it so that less living beings are tortured. Because if we dont restrict it now, companies with the goal of profit will ignore any type of ethical rules.
