PART-I
I stare at the horizon. A small line stops the beautiful sunset from blending into the ocean. But my life has barely had these kinds of peaceful moments. Currently, the unlucky half of the world has somehow been infested with creatures called ‘Murks’. We don’t know much about them except that we’re clearly their main food source. Although I managed to have some allies when all this started, it wasn’t so bad. Reina and Moira were twin sisters, and they were pretty fun. And then there’s Maxwell, ‘the brains’. And of course, the prince charming straight out of some fairytale, Fern. Oh, and me, Echo. I somehow managed to get the weirdest name in the group, but that’s no problem. Now, back to the story.
I jumped and fell from my seat when I heard Fern break a window of some car. “Hey! I found us a ride!” Fern reached for the keys and unlocked the doors. And somehow, in the blink of an eye, everyone had gotten into the car. I sighed and followed. Once Fern started to drive, he bumped the car into a freaking street lamp. This went on for a few moments until I decided to drive instead. As we started to drive, I heard heavy footsteps from behind, and my head started throbbing. A Murk was nearby, and it had clearly heard us. I pressed the gas with my leg and sped through the streets crowded with puddles of blood and broken cars. I didn’t care if I accidentally hit the car and caused a dent because I would surely choose to die in a car crash instead of getting eaten by a Murk.
As I sped through, the footsteps finally stopped. It had finally stopped. But now there was a new problem. We had to make it all the way to Asia to last a bit longer because these things had infested America. And we didn’t even know if we had enough gasoline to make the car work. So we decided to drive to the nearest gas station. But what was there was… Not the best sight.
