Recently, my interest in horror movies had a heavy increase which I’m not complaning about. So, technically I started watching horror movies more frequently. And honestly I don’t really have a preference, from slasher movies to elevated horror films. The last one I truly enjoyed watching was an original, Scream. Well, it’s actually a requel of the original, but it was still intriguing.
Scream, is an original in slasher movies with all of it’s blood and gore and, we can’t forget about the masked murderous teenagers. This requel is continuing with the original Scream’s characters kids, relatives and the characters themselves. The film, directed by Matt Bettinel-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, stars Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera as the Carpenter sisters and famous names like Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Neve Campbell and Skeet Ulrich are also starred as the old original cast. It all begins with Tara (Jenna Ortega) being home alone then getting attacked by the Ghostface with the classic phone call. Hearing her sister got attacked Sam (Melissa Barrera) returns to Woodsboro which is the place where the original story began. Even though Tara and Sam were not on the best terms, they tried to come together and get out of this situation. Then Sam approaches Dewey (David Arquette) to help catch the killer who warns Sidney (Neve Campbell) and Gale (Courtney Cox).
With it’s realistic SFX makeup and well-thought-through fight choreographies, the film for sure left an impression on me. What I found extremely fun was that the characters were aware of slasher movies and how to survive in them. So, they tried to survive and find the killer by the rules that were made by the characters of previous films. The times when you expect for the killer to show up, the music gets tensor, the anticipation is out of the roof, but the killer doesn’t show up. They timed it so perfectly that it’s hard for the audience to guess when the killer will pop onto the scene.
