Jujutsu Kaisen 0

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is a fantastic movie with a creative plot, brilliant storytelling and characters whom develop throughout the story. It is an anime film produced bu studio MAPPA based on the story bu Gege Akutami with the same name. It was released in 2021 and is 105 minutes long. It is also a great introduction to the Jujutsu Kaisen franchise.

The main character is Yuta Okkotsu. His journey in this film is about him accepting his past and moving on. He has a traumatic past that is the main focus of the movie. His past is revealed in parts through the usage of flashbacks. These are very emotional and important scenes which are very well choreographed with excellent dialogue and music. There are plenty of side characters whom all have their own time to shine however some of them get more attention compared to the rest.

Gojo Satoru who is the mentor of Yuta Okkotsu. His primary role is educating the main cast about Jujutsu Sorcery. His past is not revealed however a connection with the main antagonist of the movie, who is Geto Sugurru , is hinted at and is explored later on in the main series of Jujutsu Kaisen during The Hidden Inventory arc of the manga and anime. He works in Tokyo Metropolitan Jujutsu Highschool as a teacher. This is where Yuta goes to learn about Jujutsu also it is where we meet the rest of the side cast consisting of Maki Zenin, Toge Inumaki and Panda.

Maki Zenin’s character arc is not the main focus of the film so while it is not detailed it serves as a great introduction for her later appearances in the franchise and sets up important details about her backstory. Toge Inumaki and Panda’s primary purpose in this movie is supporting Yuta so not much is revealed about them. There is also Rika but details about her are explored towards the ending of the movie so I won’t talk about her.

The plot begins with Yuta’s introduction to the world of Jujutsu. The movie can be separated into three important parts with Yuta training in between them. By learning from these battles Yuta gets better at controling his abilities. The first two parts develop Yuta quite well and it all comes into play in the final confrontation against Geto. This is an excellent usage of the plot as it makes everything in the movie feel like it has a purpose.

The animation is fluid and flows perfectly. The frames are all very detailed and they all look great individually but also go together in perfect harmony to create an amazing movie. In my personal opinion it is one of MAPPA’s best works. The music choice is also top tier and the song match the exact vibe of that scene every time. Both the Japanese original audio and American dubbing is very good. The voice actors make you feel what that character is feeling in that scene in an excellent display of their talents in voice acting. The dialogue in the film also convey the emotions of the characters very well.

To conclude Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is one of my favorite movies so for me it is a 9/10 but excluding my favoritism to be objective it is probably closer to an 8/10. I also think it as great introduction to anime as it is easy to understand and fun to watch.
