History Class

The end of october was coming close. It was a snowy day, a day full of cheer, snowball fights, snowmans and children laughter. Children were having the time of their lives while going through boring lessons which seemed less boring than usual. This marvelous day also happened to be Mario’s 15th birthday. Saying that he was having a great time would be an understatement. His parents suprised him with his favorite cake which not only Mario, but everyone enjoyed, even the teacher. His friends threw him a little party at the garden of the school where they had a historical snowball fight. After all of this, they had lessons again. Mario’s lesson was history which he never enjoyed.

As the history teacher came to class , she had a few items with her. The history teacher was a fun person, she mostly teached by playing games. She not only teached the children about the history of their country, but also gave information about the histories of other countries mostly on important dates. It was 29th of October which is he Republic Day of Türkiye, but this year it was extremely special since it was 100th year anniversary. Mrs.Peach ,the history teacher, satrted the lesson by talking about this important day. Mario , who has extremely bored, asked why they were learning about this, since it was not their history. Mrs Peach answered him with by saying, “What we are talking about is not just a day, it is the fight of an unwithdrawing nation which has been through many hardships to get to this point. This day is not only a representation of the declarence of a republic, but is the representation of blood, sweat, hardwork, sleepless nights, never ending tears, woe and sacrifices of a nation full of stubborn people who never give up. Besides we can’t forget about their leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who dedicated his life to his nation and went through anything and everything for his nation. I hope this answers your question.”. Mario felt guilty for asking such question and for once in his life he kind of enjoyed history.

At the end of the lesson, Mario went up to Mrs. Johnson to apologize for what he had asked, but his teacher wasn’t angry at him. She was just happy she could teach him that there are nations out there that has gone through so much to reach a livable atmosphere. Mario told his parents what happened in history class with excitement and his parents never saw their kid like this before. Mrs. Johnson and 29th of October for sure changed something in Mario.
