IMPOTANCE OF REPUBLIC DAY OF TURKEY

29’th of October is the day that a lot of things changed for Turkey. So basically its the start of a new chapter of this new born country. Atatürk, who is known as the father of Turks finally did it. He opened the doors of democracy in Turkey. It was not easy to come this far for sure. There was a long journey he had to take and a lot of sacrifices he had to make.

29’th of October is not just a holiday for people in Turkey. This day represents why democracy in a country is so important and the way it was hardly earned. So the Republic Day of Turkey should show us why we need to keep our country as a republic. Anyone who knows a little bit about Tukish history knows that things were not going well in the Ottoman Empire. Citizens were not able to choose their goverment. There was monarchy. So somethimes there were sultans that were not capable of directing an empire. Years by year Otoman Empire’s power slowly started to decrease. Other countries saw this and decided to occupy the weak and poor empire which was known as a really powerful one. After other countries started to ocuppy Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s journey started. He read a lot of books and knew a few languages. So he was a wise man and he knew monarch was not the right choise. Since his journey started he had to attend a lot of wars and endure many difficulties. War was not just on the war zone. He also had to argue with many people in the council. Most of the council members including his bestfriend didn’t agree with Atatürk. They weren’t as open minded as Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. They were also a bit afraid of this huge change because they weren’t used to it. At the end Atatürk got what he wanted and gave us this beutifull day.

Without Atatürk we wouldn’t be able to choose who lead us. We own many rights thanks to him. Without Atatürk there wouldn’t be any democracy and we woudn’t own as many rights as we own. So it is important to keep Turkey as a republic and never let anyone forget this day’s importance.
