We have all used emojis at least once in our lives and we continue to use them frequently or not. Originating from Japan emojis came into our lives in 1997 and became increasingly popular in the 2010s since it was added to several operating systems. From then we use emojis as a way to express our emotions or situations that we can not put into words or things that we are too lazy to express in words.
Emojis are used by a variety of people and a great age range from your grandmother to your 4 year old brother. This is caused by two reasons: accessibility of technology and the amount of operating systems. The accessibilty and usage of technology has increased over the years while tecnology was developing. This rise is still continuing since technology’s developement is proceeding at lightning speed. Therefore, a great part of the society and the world is using the internet which eventually involves emojis. Also, the number of operating systems that include emojis has increased which makes emojis available for many people.
In addition, people are not afraid to use emojis . Our generation mostly knows the meaning of specific emojis. However, people who are newer to technology don’t always know the meanings which sometimes cause misunderstanding and problems in communication. Not only, elder people but, sometimes we might not be able to state our emotions, feelings or situations. For example, emojis might not be enough for our feelings which they aren’t or the person we are speaking with might just not understand it.
On the other hand, emojis are actually a great way of communication. Even though we might be far away from one another we are still able to express ourselves with fun little images. Emojis are not only used for expression, but for entertainment either. With the wide range of emojis –some of them being useless and the necessary ones not existing- you and your friends can have fun. Moreover, emojis made it easier and more practical to communicate with people we haven’t met one on one. Because, a friend of your might know your reaction to certain situations, but a friend you met on the internet might not.
In conclusion, I’d say emojis affect human relations and communications positively, despite the fact that they can cause misunderstandings. As, emojis provide us a way of making contact and connect with people and with the contribution of new live emojis and stickers communcation becomes more simple. Especially, for people who have difficulties in expressing themselves via text.
