We are living in a materialistic world. Materialism describes the belief that buying and having possession is not just important but a key to happiness in life like the people whose materialism has so clouded their minds and they are more interested in your clothes and shoes than in what you are saying. Additionally, Materialism means putting all importance on stuff, someone who suffers from materialism would rather be out spending money than spending time with loved ones.
To be a materialistic means that to have values that put a relatively high priority on making a lot of money and having many possessions as well as on image and popularity which are almost always expressed by buying money and possessions. Bill Gates said that” When you have money in hand only you forget who you are but when you don’t have any money in your hand, the whole world forgets who you are”. “This saying describes exactly our materialistic world.
Since people give too much importance on money, they choose their friend by their appearance or how much money they have. The people that have money think that they are on a higher level then other people but everyone is equal. For Example the people that drive an expensive car are more respected by other people.
The question is, Is this the right thing to do? Aren’t there any people that don’t care about money or care more about their life? There are many people that give more importance to time or health, those people prefer to spend more time with their loved ones than money, they live in small houses with a healthy life which is better than living in a huge expensive house with no health. Many people give importance to the ones that have knowledge not to the ones that have money.
To sum up, money is a piece of paper but controls our entire life. Francis Bacon once said “Money is a great servant but a bad master either we can control money or it can control us.” So it’s our choice whether we can be the servant of our master or the master of our servant.
