I think that being social is a human need. Nowadays you can see that people are always on their phones surfing the social media apps. But do you know, which app was the starter of all the social media apps? İt was Facebook. Yes, you heard it right, nowadays the app may not be popular as it was before. But because it started all of this, i think that Facebook is one of the greatest inventions of all time.
History Of Facebook?
The founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerburg was a student in Harvard University. He was staying in a dormitory room with some friends like him who were studying programming like him too. One night Mark made a website called Facemash using his friend Eduardo’s algorithm. (I can’t tell what the website is about because it is inappropriate, if you want to learn, you can watch the movie called “The Social Network”.) After that he sent the link to couple people. People started to hare the link and that night the site got 22,000 hits within 2 hours. Because of that the network of Harvard crashed.
1 day later everyone was talking about Mark. Winklevoss brothers (2 athletes of Harvard) explained Mark a website idea which they named “HarvardConnections”. The idea was making a website which people can talk to new people, add friends, talk to them without meeting in a restaurant. But the most important feature of this site was only people that had a mail ending with harvard.edu. Those times there were websites called “My Space” and “Friendster” which were like that but because the harvard.edu was making the site exclusive so, Mark loved the idea and told the brothers that he will work with them but what he really did was keeping him busy for weeks.

After keeping brothers busy for weeks on 4th of February,2004 Mark Zuckerburg officialy published “The Facebook” with Eduardo Saverin. He sent the link of the website to the mails of people who were in the Phoenix Club which was one of the oldest and the most popular clubs back then. In a short time 650 students were already registered to the site. After days, the site became a tool for socializing.
How Did Facebook Die?
After years, Mark paid 65 million dollars to Winklevoss brothers because of stealing their idea. The name of website is changed as “Facebook” In 2010s the site became global. Nowadays, you can see that it is not that popular anymore. Some people say that it is because of parents or old people, because of them there are no teenage or young users left. These days, apps/websites like “Instagram”, “TikTok” have replaced Facebook.
