Space Conditions

For ages, humanity have been wondering what was above the skies and beyond. Skies and the space were only a dream that we could only see but not explore at all. So, how could it be possible to reach the unknown, the unreachable? Well, it seems like nothing is unreachable after all, since our race have reached them in its really early ages.

Humanity have developed exponentially in time and if these technological developments continue with this same speed, nothing will remain unknown and unreachable. It has been about 60 years since the first successful moon mission and about 70 years since the first successful space mission. This might look like a really late timing if we consider that modern human civilization has existed for about 20 thousand years. However, according to most of the scientific researches, humanity will preserve its existence for about couple billion years, in case of best conditions and predictions.

If we return to the present, we still cannot say that we have conquered the space, just because we have succeeded in reaching it. So, what can we do to explore and discover the space better in the upcoming years? Space is a really rough place that might have the most dangerous threats, some remaining unknown still, in it. And resisting, withstanding those threats is not as simple as it looks.

The first threat is the cosmic sand, and particles which are moving with different and dangerous speeds in different directions. They also have different thermal and kinetic energies which makes them way much dangerous in case of a collusion. These particles can be in any size and can harm as much as a bullet or even more. So, we somehow need to make a space armor that is almost bulletproof.

As the secondary threat, we can count something that is both everywhere and nowhere, the radiation. Radiation is almost everywhere in the universe so escaping it is impossible but we can withstand various amounts of radiation. However, the space is full of radiation which is in dangerous amounts and can harm an average human being in just seconds. Also, it can harm the person in long term such as radiation sickness, a disease causing the person to vomit and feel pain inside himself, and tumors which can kill the person in months or years.

And the tertiary threat is a little ignored issue about the space which is the space itself, the emptiness and vacuum. So, the space suit needs to withstand a vacuum trying to pull everything out from any weak spot.

And the last big threat in the space, the temperature. In most cases human mind is programmed to think about the known hottest place in the universe, the stars. However, no one considers the known coldest place in the universe, the space. Space is a place that you can find both the coldest and the hottest phenomenon at the same time. Cold is a bigger threat compared to the heat, because since there is almost no oxygen in the space combustion reactions require huge amounts of energy. However, the suit can get frozen because of any matter touching it in seconds and kill the human inside. That is why a space suit, armor should be resistant against both burning and freezing.

So, briefly we can develop a space suit that can resist extremely low and high temperatures, extremely high and low pressure, huge amounts of radiation and cosmic particles that can rip the suit apart in seconds. A suit would be enough for a short-term survival of course. Development of a spaceship is more essential and is being worked on by several companies as well. In the end, it is always our curiosity and determination that push us to the unknown and new discoveries.
