I am a 34 years old Maths teacher in Bosnia and Herzegovina. I love my students and they love me too. On that day it was Bosnian Independence Day. I was teaching Maths like always.
Then all of a sudden we heard a loud gun sound. Everybody panicked and went under the desks. I looked to the hallway. I saw 6 men with guns. I locked the door and said “Don’t panic!”. I think they heard it because we started hearing loud footsteps. We were about to lose our minds.
We heard a loud knock on the door. The knocks on the door got louder and louder. Then it stopped in 10 seconds. Suddenly they broke the door. We were so scared that moment. They pointed guns at us. So we got on the floor. The students were crying and I was sos ad to see them like that.
Then something just snapped. I remembered a saying of Atatürk. It was “Protecting the homeland starts with protecting the children.” After that I didn’t care anymore. I waited them to turn their back and once I grabbed an iron bat I hit one man from his neck. As the man fell down, the other man turned and hit me on my head.
I fell down but when I looked at my children I felt a force inside me and I got up and hit the man with the bat. He fell down but another guy came and shoot me on my back. I fell on my knees. All my memories passed through my eyes. Then I closed my eyes.
I am a student of Prep B named Dino. When our teacher fell to the ground we were in tears but we couldn’t say anything. We just starred at the body. Then suddenly the poliçe came and they had a conflict between eachother. After a while the guys surrendered. The doctors carried our teacher to the ambulance and the polices took the guys to the jail.
When I oppened my eyes I was at the hospital. Dino told everything to me. Actually the guys were Serb Patriots and they tried to damage Bosnia. He told me he was near me all the time I was in hospital. It was nice to feel loved.
