“It has been wondered if the Turks and Caicos Islands have anything to do with Turks. If this place, which is about 10000 km away from Turkey, had a relationship with the Turks. What would the scenario be like? Please explain.”
This place which is located in the Caribbean islands is nowhere close to any land related to any Turks. So why does it have “Turks” in their name? Well some say its because of a really popular type of cacti called the cap cactus. The reason this is related to the Turks is because the flower has an upper part which looks like a fez which was a commonly worn hat in the Ottoman Empire. But lets say it wasn’t because of that, what would the backstory be?
The year is 1872 The British Empire discovered new islands in the coast of America. The crew which had originally found it had some Turks as their crew members. The Turks instead of going back to mainland Britain to inform the government of the newly discovered lands, stayed in the islands with limited food and water until more ships were recruited their way. The islands were named after after those Turks and the translation of group of islands in the language that was spoken in that area (Caicos).
