A red burning candle between a woman's palms. The woman shelters the candle flame from the wind outside. Defocus, blur, noise, grain effect.

The Candles

Chapter One: Problems In The World

The Earth has been in serious danger at the last decade. All the electricity, all the nature has been disappearing. We have been living in dangerous times, nothing to defend ourselves with, no light, no music, no usual food. Humans have gone too far with social media, internet or fast foods that they have ran out of all the possible resources while trying to have the other ones. It is the year 2078 and people are living with the candles they have found in the deepest corners of their corridors. Well, even in this kind of problems, humans still weren’t grateful for their candles, the only source of light and warmness that they threw them all away, thinking they were useless for them. This is the story of how I was the only one left with a source of light, the candles.

Chapter Two: Blown Out

I was working on my desk with the candles next to me. I was so fed up with the people coming to my house, knocking the door, and asking for candles. It has been a long time until they came asking for candles, I didn’t know if I should be happy or worried about it, but for months, they have disappeared away from my front door. One of all the same things I did was to wish that my candles would not end. It has been over a year since someone came to my house. My candles were still there for me, warming me up. I was trying to contact with people but every try, I would be further from hope. I would burn wood and try to get attention with the smoke. But still, nobody answered.

Chapter Three: Running Out of Hope

I was alone for five years from now on. I have lost hope and stopped trying to find more people. But then, I heard a strange noise coming behind a mountain. I felt like I had to go and check. And that would be what I did next. I packed my bag full of candles and took one in my hand and went to see what it was. I was on my way for a week now, but I still couldn’t pass by the mountain. One day when I was walking by the mountain, when I heard the same strange noise and ran for it and then what I saw was… nothing. More and more forests to walk on. I was shocked. I decided to camp there so I took out my last candles and lit them. Right when I was warm again, a strong wind passed by and blew up all my candles except of one. I decided to walk back home for more candles. I walked for hours and hours until i got home. And when I made it to the cupboard where I kept my candles, I realized that I had none left. I do not know why but I was so tired of going back and forth. Whatever happened right then, happened when I was blowing out the candles. I blew out my last candle and hoped someone would come. I ran to that mountain again and this time, I did not turn back. I knew that there was something there. And when I made it there, I saw people. They were looking at me weirdly. They all had candles in their hands. They welcomed me and gave me a candle. They were also inventing electricity, I helped them. For years we worked and finally had electricity again. The Earth was safe again and we lived together.
