I Miss Rose

Rose… Yes! That was her name. She was my high school love. She was just full of happiness and joy. Every day her unluckiness grew and it never stopped. She was just an ordinary girl you might say but was not. She had more patience than you thought. She was getting bullied at school and her mom was addicted to alcohol. Her dad left them when she was only 3. She had no one to trust. Until we met at high school. She was 5’7. 3 boys were bullying her again beating her and stealing the food she made for herself. I began shouting at them. “Hey! Leave her alone, she has done nothing wrong!” They were laughing at me. “Or what? The little boy is going to punch us? HAHAHA! I would love you to try it!” I was angry but I had no chance against these guys. They were 3 and I was only 1. I thought maybe some of the students watching would help me. So, I punched the first bully in the face. He stumbled but didn’t fall. The other bullies held me by my arms and the one I hit was beating me again and again. It was very painful. But I saw Rose, smiling at me for the first time. She was beautiful. For a second, I felt happy and in love with her instead of the pain. When the bullies stopped beating me, my nose was broken. But how come the teacher didn’t understand? But I still wasn’t thinking about my nose the smile that Rose gave me was still making me feel warm. At the school gates, she was walking home. So, I took my chance and before she went further away, I ran to her. I catch up with her and begin to talk and tried to stay calm. “Hi! I’m Güney and you?” She blushed. “I-I’m Rose.” I asked her “Would you mind if a walked with you home?” She looked really shy “No of course you can.” I thought we had a connection. She didn’t live too far. Rose even let me in. Not that she was only 5’7 she had long dark purple hair and a cute voice. Her mom was sleeping on the couch and the beer in her hand was spilling onto the ground. “Excuse my mom she is a bit addicted to alcohol.” We went to Rose’s room to talk with each other but she was still blushing. She was good in person. Weeks past we talked by phone as well. She seemed to look happy while talking with me. But her mom wasn’t very friendly. One day I asked her out and she accepted it shouting in happiness! So, she was now my girlfriend? Yes, and I was so happy about it! On a Friday night, while we were walking to her house something seemed off. The electricity was cut. When we entered the house there were candles everywhere. But what happened was when I blew out those candles. I saw a figure of her mom. She hit me with the beer bottle on my head. I blacked out and fell to the ground. I don’t know what happened but I woke up on Rose’s lap. She was looking at me so I hugged her. But still, her mom was angry and Rose was sad. Every day the worst thing happened while I’m with her. She had enough of life. She hugged me again and kissed me. Then she left crying and running. I tried to catch up with her but she was fast. I thought she needed some time. The other day I knocked on her door. “Rose? Rose? Where are you? I have a surprise for you. But the door wasn’t locked. Going into people’s private places didn’t feel good but I was worried about Rose. So, I entered her house. Her mom was sleeping again on the couch I claimed the stairs and knocked at her door. “Rose? are you there?” I really didn’t want to be annoyed but I was really worried. I opened her door… But how could this be? I was staring at her body hanging from the ceiling. B-But why? We were happy, weren’t we? We even kissed each other… there were knife scars on her arms. She was cutting herself? Why? We had good times. She didn’t have to do this. Not because she hurt herself but because she left a big scar on my heart as well. She was the best person I knew. This shouldn’t have been like this. We could’ve had a good future. But the scar she left on my heart was never going to heal…
