Who is I?

I opened my eyes in a dimly lit room. I did not know where I was and why I was there. I could not remember anything. My head was killing me, it was hurting so bad. I couldn’t even move my fingers. I felt so numb. Not much later someone knocked the door: a nurse. I was at the hospital. She cheerfully started talking. “Oh, so you are awake! Finally. How are you feeling?” she asked. I answered, “Actually, I am not quite sure. Why am I here though?” “Do you remember anything from last Sunday?” she looked kind of worried.

Last Sunday? It’s been three days since last Sunday. So, was I here for a whole three days? What could have happened since? I really had no clue. I just wanted to go home. This atmosphere made my really tired and anxious. I talked to the nurse for a while. She informed me about my condition. And finally, she said that I could leave the hospital but I must come here frequently for check-ups. I agreed on that. It was a relief that I could leave the hospital. But not remembering anything was a little bit suspicious. I was curious about what has happed and my curiosity made peak when I found a piece of paper in my pocket that said “Call me now!” On the crumbled paper, there was also a number whose last digit had been wiped out. I knew that I should call that number but not here not in this hospital.

After I packed my things up and stepped outside, with a quick decision I pulled out my phone with a sigh and started to dial the number that had written on the paper but the last one was absent. But it was just one number, right? So, it means that at least in my tenth try I could find the correct number. Luckily, in my fifth try or so I found the correct number. The other ones were totally the wrong number, some said that it was an unused line and others said some irrelative things.

“Mr. J. Sinclair.” A calmly voice answered the phone. The voice asked “I need the top secrets that you have in your documents. You need to contact me really quick and send me your location.” I was shocked. What documents? Top secret? What does it have to do with someone like me? That moment I lost my head. I tried to answer the mysterious voice “I-” my voice shattered. “I do not have it. What are you even talking about? What top secret?” The voice behind the phone started to chuckle “Oh come on JS, we both know you have it, don’t try to be a helpless victim. Drop the act and send me your location I am sending the guys to come pick you up.” I was too stunned to speak. “Please leave me alone sir. I am not the one who want.” said while trying to act like I wasn’t terrified.

“Who are you then? Aren’t you Jay Sinclair?” “Jay Sinclair? Who is that? This is Jake Sinclair.” This voice was talking nonsense and he thought that I was someone else? Was that some kind of joke? “Are you kidding me?” I asked furiously. “What joke Jay? You know that I really need those docs.” I knew that something was off. The voice thought that I was someone else from the beginning. I calmly said that “I don’t know who you were trying you reach but I am not him. I am actually Jake Sinclair. I have no affiliation whit the Jay Sinclair guy.”

“So, you really do not know anything about the things I said.” “Indeed.” No one talked for a quick minute and the phone hung up. It was all misunderstanding. But the call made me skip a beat. I was delighted that I didn’t involve such things like that. This mystery was solved but the reason I woke up without remembering anything in a hospital was still a mystery. Since I don’t remember anything, was I the Jay Sinclair not Jake Sinclair? Well, I don’t know but for now let’s keep it as a mystery.
