The Power of Ideas
Human being has a very valuable thing among other animals. We have brains. In fact, most of the animals have brain but none of them can use it effectively as humans. We can think, produce ideas and use them by our brains. So, some “thinking people” started to “think” about the product of “thinking”. Many philosopher produce lots of “ideas” about human’s “ideas”. But two of them were resonate with people better than others.
First one is American writer and humorist Samuel Langhorne Clemens, known by his pen name Mark Twain. Because of his job he was a man who cares thinking. Once, he decided to think about thinking. He asked these questions to himself: What is the thinking, how should we think, what can we get after thinking? After, he realized that thinking is all about using ideas. It is important word “using”, not producing. He thought the mind as a kaleidoscope. For him ideas are the colourful pieces of glass. We just turn the glass and see lots of combinations of images. Maybe we produce new combinations forever but these pieces of glass will stay as what they are. So, he thought that nobody can make new ideas. This is impossible. We can just use the old ideas to think. For him ideas are not the products of thinking. Ideas are the main and only way to think. They are just tool for thinking. So, everybody’s opinion is special for his/herself because everybody’s kaleidoscope is special. Everybody’s perspective is different, this makes opinions special. Mark Twain says “A man’s private thought can never be a lie; what he thinks, is to him the truth, always. Life does not consist mainly – or even largely – of facts and happenings. It consists mainly of the storm of thoughts that is forever blowing through one’s head.”
Other one is famous French writer Victor Hugo. He was a man who cares thinking like Mark Twain. Actually Victor Hugo’s opinion is not exactly the opposite of Mark Twain’s one but the structure of his opinion includes some contrasts. He says “No army can withstand the strength of an idea whose time has come.” For Victor Hugo the brain of person always produces new ideas and the power of them is very much. You can’t obstruct it whatever you do. According to him, human’s opinions are never ending and everybody’s opinion is special for person. In this enormous variation of course it is impossible all thoughts are same with each other.
As for my opinion, because of the human’s brain, thinking is an unavoidable thing. As a result of thinking people always have ideas. Important thing is the originality of opinions. Just think: How many of us use their own ideas? Of course we make lots of thoughts. But most of them affected from things which we heard and we saw. Our culture is another factor. But human by own nature, want more than what he/she has and produces new ideas from old ones. We can see the examples on the scientists. For example Tesla already found the way how to use the electricity to produce light. But after, Edison made the light bulb by profiting from Tesla’s information. Then, who is the inventor?
