The Grey Cat

It was a sunny day in the middle of summer. I was walking to get some of my needs from the market which is quite far from our farm. We had to go down to the city whenever we needed something, because no one had suggested the idea of building a market in the village. It was a big problem for us because the farness of the market was not only tiring, but it was also dangerous. There were rumors that some people went missing while walking on that path. However, I never took it serious because I thought it was just a story to scare children and make sure that they would not go anywhere. It turns out I was wrong.

As I was walking, I saw a grey cat with beautiful blue eyes. He was so cute that all my attention flew away and I started to follow him. I could easily see that he was a wild cat, from his behavior. I found myself on the ground when my foot tripped on a stone while trying to catch the cat. I blacked out as my head hit the ground. When I woke up it was the middle of the night. I tried to remember what happened but all I knew was my name. I didn’t know what to do. All I could do was to scream. “I wish I could do magic, I wish I could just teleport to my home!” I screamed. My body started to tingle and I could hardly breathe. I knew that sitting on the ground and crying was not going to change the situation so I tried to stand up to find people. I spent all night walking. Finally, I found a strange looking woman. She was wearing a black coat with weird black glasses. The moment I opened my mouth, she immediately turned her back and started walking as if nothing happened. I followed her, but she was definitely ignoring me.  When she stopped, I realized that we were in a village. “You are one of us.” she said while pointing at the scar on my arm. That’s when I noticed the scar on my arm for the first time. She understood what I was going to ask without a word coming out of my mouth and started to explain. “ The grey cat…” she said. I gasped when I remembered the cat. He was the one that made me forget everything and he was the one who made the scar on my arm. The weird woman started talking again. She told me that everyone in this village had the same story. They were walking and then they saw a beautiful grey cat right before forgetting everything. I looked around to see the other villagers. They all were wearing weird glasses and they all had the scar on their arm. “ We started a new life here.” the woman said. “And you don’t have any choice but to join us.”

It was my third month here. I got used to wearing those weird glasses. It was for protecting our eyes from the grey cat. He had magical eyes, which hypnotized people. I wore my glasses everyday but I still wondered what would happen if I looked into his eyes. Whenever I asked someone about this, they always said, “Don’t ever try or else you won’t be able to step in this village.” I’ve always obeyed the rules but this time I succumbed to my curiosity. I went out without my glasses and started looking for the cat. I walked for hours and reached the place where I first woke up. The cat was there and he looked like he was waiting for me. When I looked into his eyes, my heart started to beat faster. I saw my old life in his eyes, I finally remembered. For months, I had been away from my home and people who loved me. I had to choose what to do: Going home or helping the lost. My heart told me just to go home, but the people I met while trying to find my past, helped me a lot, so I chose to tell them what happened. At first they refused to talk to me because of what I did, but then they listened to me when I told them that I remembered everything.

We all went home and never saw the cat again, but the scar that he gave never healed. Now we have a story to tell and we also have a suggestion for the market issue.
