The Earth, our home, is just a blue dot in the boundless universe and it is known to be the only habitat to contain conscious life. People tried to find and make contact with extra-terrestrial life by transmitting “hello” signals to every corner of the universe. Well then, couldn’t aliens be trying to say hello to us too?
As the universe is exceedingly huge even the light cannot pass it easily. Lights speed is approximately 18000000 km per hour. As you can see light cannot be compared to anything we know but even it cannot be compared to the universe’s vastness. On August 17, 2017 scientists observed the collision of two neutron stars. According to the calculations this occurrence happened nearly 130 million light years away and even its light reached us new.
Have you ever heard of the photography “Pale Blue Dot”. It is the photo of the Earth taken by Voyager 1, a space probe, on February 14, 1990. That photo shows us the loneliness of the life in the universe. We are alone and no one can know till when or is it forever.
If there is an extra-terrestrial life out there the time for their signal to reach us or our signal to reach them may take millions of years. Throughout that time civilizations may change, become violent or imperialist. Or they can be vanished. Also let’s say they received our message but it would take the same time for their reply to reach us. Based on that we can say that there might be extra-terrestrial life out there that we may never encounter because of the boundless universe.
Assume that there is an extra-terrestrial life knows our existence since the beginning of human civilization and it is far away as their hello message couldn’t reach us for example a million light years. Wouldn’t a civilization which could sustain for a million light years and have the technology to notice and observe our existence have advanced technology to traverse the distance between us and them to reach us?
In my opinion, there is an extra-terrestrial life in the universe but it is not advanced as we think. They are just like us. New, pure and fresh compared to the birth of the universe which’s age is 13.7 billion years. And I believe, maybe millions of light years later, we may contact them at last in the endless time and boundless universe.
