Effect of Gender on Occupations

The issue of gender discrimination is one of the topics that can be discussed everywhere and anytime. We can see a discussion about gender discrimination even in the comments part of a random post. These days, especially with the help of social media, the issues related to the gender of people and specifically occupational gender discrimination are topical. So, is it required to separate the occupations of people according to their genders? Is every occupation appropriate for both genders?

First of all, grouping jobs of people according to their gender is sometimes a must for providing more efficient work which means that the relationship between the time you are at work and the work you do can change according to your gender. My main reason behind this statement is the general differences between the two genders. For example, men are usually preferred for jobs that require more physicality and muscle power. When we observe the employees who work in construction zones; we notice that most of them, even sometimes all, are male workers. It is because most men are more physical than women and when it comes to efficiency, men can do more work at physical jobs than women in the same period. But when it comes to the occupations in which communication skills and the ability to persuade are needed, women are usually one step ahead of men. Most of the secretaries in the world are women and this is exactly because of their social intelligence.

Secondly, with the help of the separation of jobs according to the genders of people, they can increase their life quality. When you look at this idea, it can seem a bit meaningless but actually, there are some logical reasons behind it. When people do the things that they are good at, their motivation level increases, and they become happier. And if we look at the happy countries in the world, we can see that the people who live there have a good quality of life. With this correlation between happiness and life quality, we can state that both genders should do the jobs they are good at.

On the other hand, the idea that supports grouping occupations according to gender has some drawbacks too. This can cause some conflicts between people who support this idea and people who support equality on all sides. In addition, there are a lot of exceptions from both males and females that don’t fit into the typical features of genders. I mean some women are more physical than some men and there are men which have better communication skills than women. In that case, people should do the jobs they want.

To sum up, the idea that I’m supporting has some positive and negative aspects but I think the positive ones outweigh the negatives. But if a person wants to do a specific job, her/his gender doesn’t matter.
