My dream of getting into the MIT, one of if not the best university in the World, started when I was in 9th grade. The main reason I wanted to go there was to study “computer science and software engineering” and become an important person who is respected by the whole world. So I decided to study harder and harder to reach my goals. After giving that decision, my story began.
After deciding to study harder, I started doing researches aswell. I was trying to find any kind of imformation about getting into MIT and MIT itself. But the results weren’t very gladsome. I saw that nearly everyone who was accepted into MIT had had a winning science project! This was terrifying me because I had never done a science project until then. In fact, I didn’t even know how to do it! But I never gave up and tried my best about preparing science projects for four years.
In that period of time, I had learnt a lot about doing a project. I had won some tourniments and had lost some. I hadn’t thought losses are only bad things, but I had learnt that they are also keys to the future and succes. This way of thinking and hard work got me where I was that time. I was in 12th grade, waiting for my graduation. I was one of the best students in my school, both academically and socially. So my hopes were up. There was a final project tournament which was organized by the MIT itself. That was the thing that would put me ahead of the other smart students. After I had signed up for joining the tournament, I went to a friendly party at MIT which included the students who were willing to join.
That was the moment when all of my hopes were dashed. All of the people there were geniuses and they knew a lot more than me! I had never felt that distant from my dreams. Winning the competition against those kind of students was impossible. Then I started working on my project with a one last hope.
It was the decision day. I brought my project to assessment area of MIT. It was my turn, judges came and asked about my project. I explained with details and I used an effective language. At the end, they didn’t seem quite happy. Neither did I.
After the competition, I applied to the university with absolutely no hope. I thought that my future career plans were ruined. Then I went for sleeping. In the morning, I woke up with the scratchy sound of the bell. There was a letter from MIT. It was an acception or rejection letter. At that point, I had already given up on my dreams of becoming a successful and respected person because it was impossible. Then I opened the letter with a sleepy face and I couldn’t believe my eyes. I was accepted. All of the negative energy on me was gone. And once again, I realized that something that seems distant and impossible may suddenly become imminent and possible.
