GLOBAL WARMING

The atmosphere warms the earth and keeps it at a certain temperature. The rays from the sun are reflected in the atmosphere while warming the earth. The retention of this energy by the effect of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is called the greenhouse effect. Carbon dioxide, water vapor and some other gases in the atmosphere are greenhouse gases. Without the greenhouse effect, the world’s air temperature would be very low and many living things would not be able to survive. However, excessive accumulation of gases such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, CFC, methane and ozone in the atmosphere increases the greenhouse effect and leads to an increase in the average temperature on earth. The increase in the average temperature of the air with the effect of greenhouse gases is called global warming. Global warming; • negatively affecting the life and reproductive cycles of some living things, • temperature increases, melting of polar ice caps, rising sea levels, warming of ocean waters and more acidity, • increase in floods, droughts and desertification, decrease in agricultural areas, • causes extinction of living species over time. Human activities can change the energy flow and matter cycles in the ecosystem. The carbon footprint is the total amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere as a result of all activities of institutions or individuals such as transportation, heating and electricity consumption. We can reduce our carbon footprint.
