It Rains Green

One day, the sky opened up with green rain instead of blue, and everything changed. People, at first, considered it a weird storm. They would raise their heads and see the sky shedding green drops, in the manner of leaves falling from trees. It was not like any rain they had ever witnessed.

The green rain fell softly at first, but after it began to spread all over the ground. The streets and the houses and the trees had all turned bright green. People went out of doors and touched the green rain. It was soft, like grass, and fresh to the nostrils, like a forest after rain.

The green rain was doing something magical, Lena thought. Plants and flowers began to appear that never grew before. The grass was thicker, and tiny trees popped up from the grounds. The animals were happy, at least so it seemed. Birds sang louder, and animals danced in the streets.

At first, only vague favors began touching the people. Some glowed gently with green lights. Others could hear murmurings in the breeze, as if the rain was gossiping secrets to it. One little girl, Lily, felt with her finger-tips the green leaf of a new tree, and suddenly the thoughts of trees ‘Who died on this spot’ swarmed in her head filled with stories. from long years ago.

People soon figured out the green rain was changing them. Now they could talk to nature and understand animals. The world felt more magical to him than ever. Some people would be scared, but Lily was thrilled. She knew this green rain was a gift.

From that day everything was different. The sky never went back to blue but nobody minded; the world had grown more beautiful, more magical, brimming with wonder and people and nature had co-existed in understanding like never before, in perfect harmony, since time began; and now Lily, with her new gift, was the trees’ storyteller.
