2486

Time machine… Sounds impossible, right?  When I was a little girl, I wondered “What would it be like to be able to travel in time?” Think about it; you see your grandfather’s grandfather’s childhood, what games he played with his friends, whether he was good at school or not. Isn’t it a wonderful thing? I became a scientist just to fulfil these dreams, and it looks like these dreams come true.

To be honest, when I started going to university, I completely forgot about my childhood dream of time machines. It’s a little weird because I get into university so I can build a time machine, but when I start that university, I forget about this goal. Anyway, this dream of mine turned into a real goal when I met a professor named Eric, and this perfect machine that you see now was created.

I’m incredibly excited to be taking our first trip with the machine today. It took us about two weeks to decide which year we wanted to go to, and we finally settled on the future, the year 2486. Eric is about 3 years older than me. After the final checks of the time machine were made, we took our places. The journey would take at least fifty-three minutes, which was quite a long time for me. The technical team said “Ready for take-off!” that command echoed in my ear. 3… 2… 1… Our journey had begun. Were my hands shaking?

This place is like some kind of outer space, with clocks and books floating in the air. They look very scary when you look at them for a long time, but once you get used to them, they become very interesting and technological.  While looking around boredly, I saw the watch on my wrist, it was spinning faster than you could imagine and the hours were passing very quickly.

“Are we there yet?”  I asked with excited eyes.  Eric said “I think we’re here, but I don’t think we should land right away, let’s wait a bit and make sure we’re safe.” What could be the danger? After all, we had come to the future now, and since we invented the time machine 462 years ago, the machine should not have seemed strange to those people. Despite all these opposite thoughts, I asked for Eric’s advice and we waited inside for about five minutes.

“I can’t stand it, I’m leaving now!” I said impatiently, and opened the door. When the door opened, I saw a sight I never expected: A desert full of ruined buildings and piles of garbage, with no people…
