100th Anniversary Of Our Freedom

At the end of a boring school day, I packed my things and set out to go home. While walking slowly on the quiet road, I suddenly found myself in the library near our house. I had always been very curious about this magnificent looking library, but never had the opportunity to enter it. As I was climbing the stairs, an ajar door caught my attention. I started to go there, and when I entered, the view I encountered made my heart beat faster. There were many shelves full of old history books. I immediately went and started reviewing the books. At that moment, a dusty book caught my attention. This was Halide Edip Adıvar’s book, Turk’s Test with Fire. While I was turning the pages of the book, suddenly a light coming from the book covered the whole room and the book fell out of my hand. When I opened my eyes, I wasn’t in the library. I was in the middle of a street, but this place was not like today, people’s clothing style generally consisted of shirts and shalwar. There were street vendors and bustle around the streets. The people around me were giving me strange looks because my clothes were very different from theirs. I immediately ran to the uncle who was coming here with the first horse carriage I saw around and asked him what year it was. Uncle looked at me as if he had seen a ghost and continued on his way without answering. At that moment, a shopkeeper I saw on the street caught my eye and I immediately went there and bought a newspaper. October 29, 1923. When I looked at the date above, I was stunned because I was transported to the day the Republic was declared. Now I understood that the reason for this hustle and bustle around was that the foundations of the new Republic of Turkey had been laid. I had witnessed an event that will go down in world history. As a result of the great struggle of Ataturk and his comrades in arms, the foundations of today’s Turkey were laid. The day before, Ataturk had said his famous words: “Gentlemen, we declared the Republic of Tomorrow.” “We will,” he said. People were celebrating in the squares with flags in their hands, and there were demonstrations of joy everywhere. The declaration of the Republic was announced to the whole world with 101 cannon shots in Ankara and the acceptance of the amendments to the Constitution of the Constitution.
