100th Anniversary

Republic; It is defined as the form of state in which the nation retains its sovereignty in its own hands and exercises it through deputies elected for certain periods. A state in which the people govern themselves and are governed by self-elected rulers is a republican state. What ensures that everyone has a certain area of freedom is thanks to the rulers we elect with our will. Thus, while individuals experience their own freedom, they do not occupy the freedom areas of others, which leads to the formation of a good people and a permanent state. Only a developed state can boast of such freedom. The Republic of Turkey, on the other hand, declared the republican administration on October 29, 1920. With a law enacted in 1952, Republic Day was declared in Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on October 29 every year and celebrations were held.

During the National Struggle, which started with Atatürk’s journey on May 19, 1919, the Grand National Assembly was opened in 1920 in order to become a democratic country. There are administrators elected by the will of the people in the Grand National Assembly. Thanks to these managers, there is a common solution to the problems experienced by the people. However, due to reasons such as the continuation of the war at that time, sometimes the parliament takes extraordinary decisions and the understanding of a democratic society is disrupted. Despite this, although it is a constituent assembly, it is very useful in creating a democratic social structure. The first speech made in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey was made by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and was an opening speech. After this speech, Atatürk was elected as the chairman of the parliament. On that day, after this speech, the Turkish people; It has rights such as the right to life, inviolability of person, freedom and security of person, privacy and protection of private life, freedom of residence and travel, freedom of religion and conscience, freedom of thought and opinion, freedom of science and art. Some of the consequences that are not rights are modernizing armies, holidays taken on the same day as the West, ignorant groups that are closed to the detriment of many countries, natural beauties that are protected, international calendar and time applications, alphabet change, surname law.

The Republic, which is one of the greatest achievements of the Turkish People, which has overcome many difficulties from the past to the present, was declared thanks to Atatürk. Celebrating the Republic Day every year from past to present is an indication of our debt and enthusiasm to Atatürk that we cannot pay. Celebrations held in schools, stadiums, concert venues and many more places and in 81 provinces and even in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus ensure that this national consciousness is strengthened and that the burning torch does not go out. It was Atatürk who lit this torch and led us. This year is the 100th. The Turkish people, who are celebrating the proclamation of the Republic with enthusiasm, will remember the words of Atatürk: “Sovereignty belongs to the nation unconditionally”.
